Turkey this week is said to be considering a buffer zone in Syria to secure its own national security as well as aid fleeing civilians. MFA sends looted ‘Weary Herakles’ statue back to Turkey
- The Museum of Fine Arts last night returned the top half of its “Weary Herakles” statue to Turkey. The 1,800-year-old marble statue of the muscular hero has been at the MFA since 1982, but after years of negotiations, the MFA recently acknowledged that it was probably originally looted from an excavation in Turkey and should never have entered the collection.
There’s a new sight to see on Spectacle Island in the Boston Harbor this summer, and no one knows where it came from, how it got there, or how long it plans to stay, said Bruce Jacobson, a park ranger for the Boston Harbor Islands National Recreation Area.
