‘The Fairy’ delivers slapstick mash-up
- ‘The Fairy’ may be as close as we’ll ever get to a live-action cartoon. The cheerfully surreal love child of three Belgium-based comedians, the film is a slapstick ballet that combines elements of Jacques Tati, “The Umbrellas of Cherbourg,” “The Triplets of Belleville,” and “Napoleon Dynamite,” yet it flows with a dreamlike lunacy all its own.

France bans face-covering Islamic veil
- France’s new ban on Islamic face veils was met with a burst of defiance Monday, as several women appeared veiled in front of Paris’ Notre Dame Cathedral and two were detained for taking part in an unauthorized protest.
Competitors in the Sarenza High Heel 2010 Race from France and the United Kingdom run wearing shoes with heels higher than 8 cm. The event took place in Paris.
